Why? Because we weren’t processing enough Scratch Cards and Lottery tickets to meet their minimum turnover requirements. It was largely due to Ron’s considerable powers of persuasion, and the fact that we could be assessed as a community service, that we managed to retain this important part of our business.This indicates how fragile things can be – but how easily resolved. The future is in our own hands. We know the internet can be more convenient, or buying tickets and scratch cards elsewhere if you are out shopping, but if you could use the facility in you village shop, it would secure it’s retention in the future.

We have been advised that we should have a ‘soft opening’ when the contents of the old shop and the PO can be moved + the PO staff trained and the staff become accustomed to all the new things and iron out any glitches. This will be happening on the afternoon of Sunday 8th May (after the shop has closed) and all day Monday 9th May, when both shops will be closed.4

SO IT’S ALL HANDS ON DECK – ON THE SUNDAY AFTERNOON WE NEED A TEAM OF PEOPLE TO HELP MOVE STOCK.

We will need help assembling and varnishing wooden shelving about the third week in April, after it has been delivered, date to be advised. Watch out for a notice in the shop.

We need someone who can bolt down (or fix in some other way) exterior seating etc.

Ground preparation and hedge planting – this is being led by Iris Worker with the support of the Horticultural Society and is being run as a Community Project. This will take place on Saturday 23rd April, from 10.00am onwards. Watch out for posters, just turn up on the day with a fork and spade. Young gardeners welcome.If anyone has some spare well-rotted manure, could you let us know as soon as possible.

Some people have offered sponsorship for particular items, eg. memorial benches, coffee area tables and chairs, display baskets. If anyone else would like to contribute by sponsoring new items, or donating second hand ones (from Ebay would be OK), below is a list of items we will require:

Desk, rug or carpet, large table and chairs (to seat at least 8 people) 2 office chairs, and filing cabinets all for office area. Exterior tables, toilet roll holder, electric kettle, mugs. A covered milk jug flask type) and cups and saucers for coffee machine. Small plates (for cakes and sandwiches) and cake domes. Shopping baskets.
