Phil & Sue have kept chickens for over ten years starting with six egg laying hybrid Warrens on their allotment. As anyone who keeps chickens will know they can be addictive and soon they progressed and before they knew it they had bought an incubator and heat lamp and were hatching their own chicks. Day old meat birds came next with Phil’s 40+ years experience in the butchery trade proving invaluable when the day came to prepare them for the table.
They soon outgrew their 4 allotments and 5 years ago acquired a 6 acre small holding not far from where they live in the beautiful New Forest Park. This provided the opportunity for more chickens (200+ to date) and the jewel in the crown for them, pigs. They started with Gloucester Old Spot weaners, then British Lop and finally Saddlebacks before settling on two Gloucester Old Spot sows that produced numerous weaners over the years.
