Ten everyday facts about Woodgreen Community Shop

Fact #1:

The shop is laid out in the order that you (usually) take your meals everyday…breakfast, main meals and snacks, and finally the wine!

Fact #2:

Shares are available in the shop at £10 each and help to protect the future of the shop. So, if you have recently moved into the village, you can still have a stake in the shop. Ask at the counter for a registration form.

Fact #3:

There is a New Forest Information Point in the shop. So useful for finding out what is on and when, picking up a map of the area, or even tracking down those illusive tracks. (Into the shop, straight on and on your left by the Post Office!)

Fact #4:

You can pay in your cheques through the Post Office Counter with the added satisfaction of hearing those old fashioned clunk-clunk sounds as your envelope gets stamped.

Fact #5:

The wall hangings on the back wall depict the different foods that we sell, with the River Avon flowing along the middle, and the words Local and Food hidden amongst them. Can you spot them?

Fact #6:

Bin and Gone! Did you know that Uncle Ron is tireless in his pursuit of good quality, good value wines and has three that you should try. Chilean Manutara Carmenere from the Maule Valley. Plump & fruity! £2 off normal price so only £6.99 in the shop; Monsters’ Reisling from winemakers ‘Some Young Punks’ – Ron is still talking about his first taste – “nectar”. £9.99 which is a whopping £5 off the normal price; Fiano di Avellino from the heel of Italy. Lots of stone fruit flavours and texture. So much quality here for £9.99.

Fact #7:

This one might be called a lightbulb moment – the shop roof is covered in Photovoltaic cells, which were installed in 2011. The costs, including installation, was £25,000 75% of which was covered by grants. Monies received from ‘Feed in tariff’ for electricity generated for the grid averages £1750/£1800 per annum.

Fact #8:

There were 186 responses to our customer survey and these showed that 58% of our shoppers live in Woodgreen (its got a wood, and it’s green!) 11% in Breamore, 11% in Hale and 9% in Godshill/Godshill Wood. The word is spreading with an amazing 11% living further afield, including Hythe, Wimborne, New Milton, Burgate, Wellow, Frogham and Britford. We have become a “destination” shop. 2017 Questionnaire

We carried out a customer survey in 2013 when we were taking our first tentative steps to establish Woodgreen’s very own community shop. There have been many changes over the last four years so we thought it was about time we asked you how it was going. We are now unleashing our 2017 questionnaire to gather your views and experiences. You can pick one up in the shop. The counter staff may attempt to slip a copy into your shopping bag (you will be bribed with a free tea or coffee to complete the questionnaire there and then!). If you live locally, you may receive a copy through your letterbox. If you’re further afield, you can download it here. Please, please, take the time to complete and return the questionnaire by Friday 24th February. It is really important that we understand what you need and how we can do better. There will be a questionnaire collection box in the shop’s coffee area (all returned forms will be entered into a prize draw for one of Julie’s sumptuous hampers of local produce).

In addition to the questionnaire, we’ll also be running a number of focus groups during February. We need to pick your brains! We want groups of 6-8 people to really tell us what they think about the shop (over tea, coffee, cake and biccies, of course). The sessions will probably last about an hour – but that depends on the participants! We want to hear from all types of shoppers: our cherished regulars, online shop’n’droppers and dyed-in-the-wool, once-a-week, trolley dashers. Post Office Award

Congratulations to our wonderful Post Office team, which has received a Community Service Award from HQ recognising “10 years’ excellent service to your customers and community”.
